The Rare Stone Museum (พิิพิธภัณฑ์หินแปลก) moved to a new location in Pathum Thani (ปทุมธา๊นี) at the end of 2008. As its name suggests, the museum houses a collection of rare and unusual stones. It also contains a small collection of other items including fossils, ashtrays, lighters, phallic objects (used for good luck in Thai culture) and art. The museum is located next to a major road about six kilometers from Future Park Rangsit, and with basic instructions is not difficult for independent visitors to find.
A simple but nonetheless captivating stone that takes the appearance of a human skull.

Here is the proud owner and founder of the Rare Stone Museum, Mr. Bunyong.

When asked to choose one of his favorite stones, Mr. Bunyong had no hesitation in choosing this stone, labeled the South-Sea Goddess Bhodhisat "Guangyin".

Look at the outline created by the white calcite. Can you identify the shape?

The next stone is very interesting. Comprising a single piece of stone, it takes on the appearance of two penguins in an embrace. The exhibit was labeled Great Pleasure to Meet.

Some of the stones incorporate beautiful fossils like this large exhibit from Morocco.

Some of the smaller and more delicate exhibits are presented in glass display cabinets.

Admission costs just 40 baht per adult and 20 baht per child. Thai and foreign visitors pay the same charges.

The Rare Stone Museum is located in Pathum Thani province, located just to the north of Bangkok. If traveling from central Bankgok, the easiest way to reach the museum is to take a van from Victory Monument to Future Park Rangsit (takes about 30 minutes) and from there take a taxi to the museum. The taxi ride is about 6 KM and should take about 10 minutes. On the day I traveled, the van cost 25 baht per person and the taxi ride cost 60 baht. Most vans have their destinations written in Thai, so if you can't read Thai, you'll need to ask a local for assistance.
If traveling from Future Park Rangsit, take the Rangsit - Pathum Thani Road (ถ.รังสิต - ปทุมธานี) heading west. The museum is located before Poon Sap Market.
