The Reading Room (art library)

The Reading Room is a privately-owned contemporary art library located on Charoen Krung Road in a three-story shop house, not far from BTS Sapan Taksin. The library is run as a non-profit organization open to the public free of charge.

Although we haven't yet had a chance to visit the library ourselves, we have been in contact with its owner and it seems very promising. The Reading Room houses a collection of more than 1,000 items relating to contemporary Thai art and art reference books from all over the world, including art history and theory books, monographs, exhibition catalogues, art magazines, and electronic resource.

William Warren Library

The William Warren Library is a reference library open to the general public. It also offers a lending service to members for a small annual fee. Operated under the James H.W. Thompson Foundation, the library focuses on Asian arts, textiles and culture. As one might expect from the Foundation, the library is well managed, has excellent resources (in both English and Thai) and is suitably stylish and comfortable to visit. It is closely associated with the nearby Jim Thompson House Museum.

The Art Library in the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre

Even though it commands one of the best and trendiest locations in Bankgok, nestled between MBK and the Siam Shopping Center complex, and has already been open for five months, few people seem to know about or have visited the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). It would seem that even fewer people know there is a very spacious and modern-looking library on the lower ground floor, called the Art Library (Thai: ห้องสมุดศิลปะ).
