Three foreign journalists shot, one dead

Television station CTV Montreal has reported armored vehicles being used to ram through barricades set up by red shirt protesters in Bangkok, two protesters killed, and three foreign journalists shot:

A pair of armoured vehicles rammed through a crudely fashioned barricade in Bangkok Wednesday morning, paving the way for Thai troops to enter the fortified encampment controlled by 3,000 Red Shirt protesters.

Early reports said at least two protesters were killed. Meanwhile, an Associated Press photographer reported that three foreign journalists had been shot, and one appeared to be dead.

Troops fired intermittently on the protest area from elevated positions, including an overpass and the tracks of a light rail system.

"This is D-Day," one soldier said, when asked if the military was launching an operation to clear protesters from the capital's streets.

A government spokesperson said on television that the crackdown was launched to "secure the parameter in several locations in Bangkok," and would last throughout Wednesday.
