LEXiTRON ™ (เล็กซิตรอน) is a Thai <-> English dictionary produced by the National Computer and Electronics Center, Thailand (NECTEC). There are two versions of the dictionary (sound / no sound) that you can download and install for free.
LEXiTRON is maintained by Thai staff and its users can suggest new words and definitions. This may explain how some of the more unusual words, spellings and sometimes vulgar slang has worked its way into the dictionary. Nonetheless, for a free dictionary the overall quality is quite reasonable.

A note for software developers and lexicographers
Previous versions of LEXiTRON store the dictionary data in plain text files, but LEXiTRON 2.6 stores its data using Apache Derby, a JAVA relational database management system. After we installed and configured Apache Derby on one of our test computers, we were able to query the LEXiTRON 2.6 database using SQL commands.
The dictionary data files have been used by many websites and dictionary programs.

Lexitron 2.6 still the current version
The current version of LEXiTRON Thai--English Dictionary is still version 2.6 for Microsoft Windows.
In case you are wondering, LEXiTRON 3.0 beta or LEXiTRON 2009 (mentioned on the NECTEC website) refers to the website and not the application program. We called NECTEC on March 12, 2009, and they said a new version of the Windows program could be released in 2 – 4 months. We haven't seen or heard anything of the new version since then.

Did you download the file and then find it was corrupted or have you not been able to download the file at all?
I'm guessing that you may have a problem with your internet connection or computer. You should check you have sufficient disk space on your computer for download and installation, and it may help if you clear your web browser's cache. If you are using Firefox, you could try using a download manager such as DownThemAll.

We tested the software on Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and didn't experience any problems, and the program has also been downloaded and successfully installed by many other users.
Perhaps the file wasn't completely downloaded when you tried to run the installer or the file became corrupted during the download process. You can check this by validating the MD5 checksum.

The message "move file failed; code 32" is normally reported when a file is locked by another process, so if you are sure the file has been downloaded, you could try restarting the computer.

Problems on NECTEC Lexitron website
It's nice to hear that you have found our download service useful. The last time we tried, the NECTEC website still had problems with new user registration and login, and the download page (or rather, navigation to the download page) seemed to have problems, too. That's why when we finally managed to get the files from NECTEC we decided to host them on our server.
If you have registered on the NECTEC website and cannot login, try clicking the "forgot password" option even if you are sure that you are using the correct username and password. It seemed to work for us.

Thai and English dictionary data files
We are sure there must be some other good Thai dictionary data sets out there, but we don't know of any that can be downloaded for free. The Lexitron data is easily converted to XML format - we did this ourselves one time using a regex (regular expression) search and replace - and can then be easily imported into a database such as MS Access or mysql. If you do this, you might also want to compare the English spellings against a reliable source such as Princeton University's WordNet which can also be downloaded for free.

do you have any more data files? i'm working on a project to create a multilingual dictionary and would welcome any more thai dictionary data files if you have any. or... do you know where i could get them?

Thanks for making this upload available from your site. I wasted so much time the last 2days trying to register on the NEC site only to have my password rejected every time i tried to log in. I don't know why they make things so difficult!!! Have tried lexitron with and without sound and theyboth work well. Thxs.
