Ban Mor (Ban Mo) for electrical and electronic parts, services and equipment

Ban Mor (บ้านหม้อ) is an area of Bangkok with hundreds of shops selling electronic and electrical parts and equipment. There are also numerous shops providing repair and electronic assembly services, and several shops selling replacement parts for home appliances (Whirlpool, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, etc.) at discount prices. Ban Mor is also spelled Ban Mo (official Thai transliteration) and Baan Mor; however, it is always pronounced bâan môr.

Most shops in Ban Mor are located along Soi Thip Wari (ซ.ทิพย์วารี). This spelling is confusing as the correct pronunciation is soi tip waree. A smaller cluster of shops are located along Ban Mor Road (ถ.บ้านหม้อ) close to Ban Mor Intersection (แยกบ้านหม้อ). Many of the repair shops are makeshift stands located along the roadside. At least one of these stands has several workers rebuilding and rewinding electric fan motors. Many retail outlets are located in standalone shops or inside small shopping plazas, and most specialize in groups of components (e.g. semiconductors, batteries, etc.).

Ban Mor Plaza houses a large number of small shops mostly specializing in electronic and electrical components and ancillary equipment. Some shops also sell miscellaneous industrial equipment (control equipment, bearings, valves, motors, etc.) suitable for light-industrial and student projects. There are several shops that offer a service to design and build complete electrical projects, a service that is presumably take up by some university and technical college students.

In addition to selling electrical and electronic equipment and services, Ban Mor is well-known for selling counterfeit DVD and VCD movies and MP3 music CDs. Pornographic movies (illegal in Thailand) appear to be the most popular and are sold openly in Ban Mor. They include DVD/CD covers of university students (แอบดูนักศึกษา) and scenes of child abuse (pornographic titles include the word เด็ก). There appears to be little or no attempt to control the sale of these publications in the area.

Most customers at Ban Mor are Thai males, either students or those working in electronic/electrical repair. Although usually very busy, the area attracts few if any foreign visitors. Most shops are open from about 9am until 5pm every day and will offer small discounts for bulk purchases.

I have been to this market

I have been to this market during my last visit to Bangkok. The electronic items available there are cheaper than India. One can see up to 30% difference in prices. I bought an LED TV from there.
I agree that there were a lot of products available with various brands but earlier I didn't feel comfortable over there. I was worried about getting charged higher as I was an outsider there. But believe me, I was treated in a better manner than the local customer.

I would like to than people who attended me in the shop.
Great post anyways!

Thanks!
Aaron
