Red shirts change colors

Many anti-government protesters who formerly wore red shirts have switched to other colors in a bid to outmaneuver a widely expected crackdown by government security forces. The protesters, who refer to themselves as the “red shirts”, have now occupied the Ratchaprasong Intersection and its nearby shopping district for several weeks.

Pro-government supporters, many of whom previously wore yellow shirts, have also taken to wearing other colors. Some commentators have suggested that many of these supporters still maintain an allegiance to PAD, a group that was responsible for causing severe disruption to businesses and holiday makers when it closed down Suvarnabhumi International Airport during protests in 2008.
