Red shirts show defiance at Central World

Report for Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

Red shirt protesters continued to show defiance against the government by remaining at Ratchaprasong Intersection for their fourth day of protests. Despite the risk of intervention by police and military personnel, huge crowds attended the protests on Chakri Day, a public holiday in Thailand.

Authorities have now approved summons warrants for up to 10 red shirt leaders, and it appears that opposing groups are no closer to reconciliation.

Central World, Gaysorn Plaza, Big C, and the EGV shopping and entertainment complex were all closed, although toilets in Central World were open for protesters to use. As on previous days, protesters were in good spirits and there were no signs of weapons or damage to property. Refuse continued to pile up due to the lack of adequate cleaning services.
