Lumpini Discovery Learning Library

The Lumpini Discovery Learning Library (Thai: ห้องสมุดเพื่อการเรียนรู้สวนลุมพินี) is located inside Lumpini Park. It is a small public library with free admission and low fees.

There are very few English language books in the library, other than a few rather dated titles for learning English as a foreign language. It has a good selection of travel guides and cookery books written in Thai. If you are learning to read/write Thai, have a Thai friend or partner, or simply want to cool down for a few minutes before returning outside, Lumpini Library may be worth a short visit. Incidentally, the library does have the Bangkok Post newspaper, but it is often in use or hard to find.

Membership fees at Lumpini Library are the same for Thai nationals and foreigners. Children under 15 years old pay just 5 baht per year. Members aged 15 and above pay 10 baht per year. All members must pay a book deposit fee of 20 and 40 baht respectively. The book deposit fee is returnable when membership ends.

Overdue books are charged at just 1 baht per day. No more than two books can be borred in any seven day period. Lost or damaged books are charged for at cost, or a new replacement must be given to the library.

How to join

Thai nationals must take their ID card and proof of address. Foreign nationals must take their passport. Although it wasn't mentioned (and we forgot to check) it's probably also a good idea for foreigners to take some proof of address in Thailand.
