Pridi Banomyong Library (Thai: หอสมุดปรีดี พนมยงค์) pronounced hŏr sà-mùt bpree-dee pá-nom yong, is named after Pridi Banomyong, a former Prime Minister of Thailand and founder of Thammasat University. It is the main library of the university, but is open to the public for a small fee of just 20 baht per day.
The library is located next to the Faculty of Economics and directly faces the Chao Phraya River. Somewhat surprisingly, given its close proximity to the flood prone river, much of the building is located below ground.
As one might expect from a university, this library has an extensive collection of academic books and journals, many of them in English language. It also has a large number of carefully managed OPAC terminals for searching the library catalog. Seating and desks in the library are plentiful, but power outlets for laptop computers are less easy to find.
High speed Internet access is available for free in the Digital Library which houses about 30 computers, but WiFi access is for registered users only. The library also has a large number of CD and DVD access stations for patrons to use.
The easiest way to find the Pridi Banomyong Library is by entering the university campus via August 16 Road (entrance next to Phra Chan Pier). Continue walking straight on until you arrive at the library, just after passing a statue of Pridi Banomyong.
