Siam Commercial Bank (Thai: ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์) was established by Royal Charter in 1907, making it the oldest local bank in Thailand. Its name in Thai is pronounced tá-naa-kaan tai paa-nít.
SCB Park Plaza or Siam Commercial Bank Plaza is a high-rise building complex situated next to Ratchadapisek Road, close to the intersection with Phaholyothin Road. The complex comprises four large office towers and a small shopping plaza.
The Thai Bank Museum (พิพิธภัณฑ์ธนาคารไทย) is located at the SCB Park Plaza on Ratchadapisek Road. Managed by Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) – the oldest bank in Thailand – the museum houses a collection of documents and materials that recount the evolution of Thailand's financial and banking system.
The ground floor includes a comfortable reception area, computer terminals, and a large exhibition space which was being used as an art gallery when we last visited (April 7, 2010). Most information boards and notices are written in Thai and English. The museum is attractively presented throughout and for anyone interested in money or banking this museum is worth at least a short visit.
The SCB Learning Center is located at the SCB Park Plaza on Ratchadapisek Road. The center includes a small library open to the public, and training facilities for SCB employees. The library (ห้องสมุดธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์) has a good selection of textbooks, journals, newspapers, annual reports, and CD ROMs. Publications are available in Thai and English, but most are available in Thai only.
