The Jim Thompson House Museum is the home of the late James H.W. Thompson, an American entrepreneur who was the founder of the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company.
MBK Center (pronounced mah-boon-krong) (Thai: มาบุญครอง) is a popular shopping center located next to Rama 1 and Phaya Thai Road. It was named after the developer's parents, Khun Ma and Khun Boon Krong. The center is popular with foreign tourists and Thai shoppers, and is well known for having a large number of small stores selling new and used mobile phones. Unlicensed software, pirated movies and counterfeit goods are also widely available.

The William Warren Library is a reference library open to the general public. It also offers a lending service to members for a small annual fee. Operated under the James H.W. Thompson Foundation, the library focuses on Asian arts, textiles and culture. As one might expect from the Foundation, the library is well managed, has excellent resources (in both English and Thai) and is suitably stylish and comfortable to visit. It is closely associated with the nearby Jim Thompson House Museum.
